I Talk to Strangers and Take Their Candy

Vegas.

‘Nuff said.

So many people love it here. Yet, I could live out the rest of my life perfectly content to never set foot in Sin City again.

That being said, what makes Vegas for me, is the people that I surround myself with when I’m here.

I’m a people person. I love people. All kinds of people.

Against everything my parents taught me — I talk to strangers. And sometimes, I even take their candy.

Because without talking to strangers, you miss out on the opportunity of some great business deal or learning something that makes you a better person. But more importantly, you never know who will wind up being your friend for years to come.

So, while I’m here in Vegas for Affiliate Summit, my business partner and I figured that we’d take a bunch of friends and business associates out to enjoy a nice dinner at Roys, which is one of my favorites. I’m totally addicted to their Butterfish and Hawaiian Martinis :)

It was also my “29.95 plus shipping and handling” birthday.

As I looked around the room, I realized that while once upon a time, I didn’t know these folks. I probably just started randomly chit-chatting with them one day, somewhere. We likely became business associates in some fashion. Yet everyone there, many of which I’ve known since ‘99 or so, have become so much more. They were my friends… people that put up with my nonsense for years and still want to be in my company.

And that made me happy.

Go talk to a stranger today. And if you’re in Vegas @AffiliateSummit, come up to me and say hi. You just never know what might happen.

Here are some pics….

I think you hit the nail on the head as to why, especially for people that work online, conferences like Summit are so important. We can – and do – make connections online, but when you meet someone in person, there is an opportunity for so much more.

Wish I could be in Vegas with you guys this time, but family stuff is keeping me at home. I'll definitely see you in New York in August!

You know I kinda agree with you. I've been to Vegas three times in the past year-and-a-half (less, actually), and I'd be totally OK to not have to go back for several years,

I didn't get a chance to talk to you nearly enough this time around!

Yeah, Vegas looses it's luster when you have to go back 5 times in a year's span…

@TrishaLyn — I know — I feel like I missed out on talking to a lot of folks that I normally spend so much time with. I promise, we'll catch up at the next show!
