My Birthday Wish: A World With More Birthdays!

  • by Missy Ward

Birthday CakeOn Sunday, January 10th, I will turn 43.

Am I freaked out that I'm “that old”?  Yeah, a little.

But, I'm also pretty darn appreciative that I have the chance to live another year. (Because seriously, having too many candles on one's cake really is a good problem to have.)

American Cancer Society LogoTo celebrate this year's birthday, I decided to declare the American Cancer Society as my official birthday cause and try to raise some money to help those that have been affected by cancer.

So, if you had any thoughts on buying me a birthday card or balloon, please don't.  Instead, why don't you consider donating a couple of bucks on my  Birthday Donation Page that I've set up with the American Cancer Society?

Together, we can help create a world with a whole lot less cancer and a whole lot more birthdays.

And, if you do make a donation, I promise to include you in my wishes that I get when I blow out the candles this year 🙂

If you ever wanted to know what went on during the 2009 AffiliateMarketersGiveBack.com, Avon 40-mile walk for Breast Cancer, below is a video from teammate Kevin Strawbridge with all the highlights (and lowlights). 😉

Watching it got my all teary-eyed again. I'm so proud of our entire team and thank everyone who donated and helped us promote the event.

The Power of Giving: How Giving Back Enriches Us…

  • by Missy Ward

While at IZEAFest earlier this month, I had the great fortune to meet Azim Jamal, who along with Harvey McKinnon, authored the book “The Power of Giving: How Giving Back Enriches Us All“.

The video above is a discussion of what I do to give back, how it has enhanced my life and why I'm instilling the same values in my children. After our chat, Azim provided me with a signed copy of his book which I devoured last week and will now share my thoughts on.

The Power of Giving is a thought-provoking book filled with encouraging stories and ideas that consider the strange phenomenon of the more you give without intentionally expecting return, the more your own life will be enriched.

One of the personal philosophies I live by is to be a better “mensch” every day, so what I particularly liked about the book is that it explores different ways that people can give back without it costing money or a lot of time. Additionally, it delves into the practical benefits that one can gain by helping to cultivate someone else's life.

This is the kind of book that after you read it, you'll want to buy a few more to share with others — especially folks who might be caught up in the daily grind that life sometimes doles out. It is a fast-read that will leave you feeling inspired and ready to make the world a better place.

Affiliate Marketers Give Back Takes on the Avon Walk…

  • by Missy Ward

For the third year in a row, Team Affiliate Marketers Give Back took to the streets with their feet to do their part to fight breast cancer; this time during the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Los Angeles.

This year’s team consisted of Brook Schaaf of Schaaf Consulting, Chris Pearson of DIYThemes, Melissa Salas of Buy.com, Kevin Strawbridge of DealTaker.com, Lynette LaPlante a 1-year survivor and me.

After months of fun and sometimes whacky fund raising activities, Team Affiliate Marketers Give Back blew past their goal and raised nearly $53,000, earning as them the #5 highest fundraising team spot overall.

After two days of walking (26.2 miles on Day 1 and 13.1 miles on Day 2), we wound up with 12 team-wide blisters, dozens of muscle aches, 1 broken nail, tons of hilarious video footage (coming soon) and a sense of pride and accomplishment knowing that we were doing something great to help fight a disease that has affected so many women and men.

A full recap of the walk will appear in the next issue of FeedFront Magazine.

I am proud of my team and I thank them so much for volunteering their time. I’m also very grateful to all of our sponsors and supporters who helped us reach our fundraising goal.

If you are interested in walking with Team Affiliate Marketers Give Back, please get in touch with me. We are tentatively scheduled to walk in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago on June 5-6, 2010.
