Tell Me What’s On Your Holiday Wish List and You May Just Get It

by Missy Ward in Contests & Goodies   &  , , ,   55 Comments

And the winner is… @laurie_pooh!

My son Chase picked your name out of his Santa hat a few minutes ago!

Missy Claus is buying you your Rock Band 2 Bundle (XBOX 360). Send your address to me at missyward/at/gmail/dot/com

Every year, my family hits me with that age-old question… “What's on your Holiday Wish List this year?”

You see, here's the thing. Everything that I want (that doesn't cost a small-fortune), I buy for myself over the course of the year.

I lack patience. It's a flaw, I know. But, I've come to the realization that I'm not going to change, because I actually like this little imperfection that makes me, well.. me.

So, in keeping with our family tradition, I never send them a list and therefore the only things I get for the holidays are Gift Cards. Lots and lots of Gift Cards.

Right now I have a $250 Circuit City one sitting in front of me, that has gone unused from last Christmas, and I feel like playing Santa with it.

So here's the deal…

Go to CircuitCity.com and pick out something that you want for the holidays (max $250.00 with shipping). Come back here and make a comment on this post which includes the URL to the item you want and answer ONE of the following three questions:

  • What are you going to do with it?
  • Who are you going to give it to?
  • Why I should buy it for you.
  • On December 19th, my 2-year old son Chase, will randomly select a winner based on the comments received. That winner will get what they wished for and I will announce it here on my blog.

    Good luck and happy shopping!

(Before you ask… No, I am not going to send you the gift card — I want to buy you a gift instead!)

Contest ends at 1:00pm EST on Friday, December 19th.

@Dennis — While I appreciate the sentiments, the contest was a random drawing and I wasn’t going to change it mid-stream. That being said, I’ve already made a donation to St. Jude at Thanksgiving as it’s a charity that I strongly support. I hope that others decide to give a little this year as well.

I read the comments to see what kind of things other people were requesting…and then I got to Alex’s request for a Wii for the St. Jude’s Children Hospital. If I could pick a winner, that would be it. I thought a bit about what I’d like to receive, but then realized that I don’t need any of these things. The children at St. Jude’s can definitely use, and I’m sure would LOVE, a Nintendo Wii. So instead of adding an entry for myself, I’d like to throw my support behind Alex’s request. Good luck!

Wow, wonderful contest you are having here Missy! Hopefully it will do a lot of good during this holiday season.

    Here’s my entry:
I’ve got a friend in need of some major time-management tools. I just got myself an iPod Touch and it definitely has increased my productivity at least 4-fold. The Apple App Store has numerous applications that can help with time management. For example, I use the “To do” application as… well, my to-do list manager. I also use the “Free RSS Reader” to get all my feeds without having to go to my computer. Oh, and you can also check multiple emails and Twitter! This cuts out all the distractions that may come up when on a computer ๐Ÿ˜€ Ugh, I can’t forget listening to music while you work…. and a little fun with the awesome games that you can download. If anyone is looking to boost their productivity, I recommend an iPod Touch! Plus, it’s just really cool.

Good luck to everyone! Missy, thank you for this contest!

    13 Sid December 19, 2008 at 11:40 am

Great contest Missy, thanks for the excitement of wishing ๐Ÿ™‚

My pick is a iPod classic. I picked it coz i want to send it to my dad who is in Africa, and still uses the old school sony walkman as a music entertainment device LOL. I think we need to bring him to the 21st century someway right?

the economy is tough and you never know when having an alternative skill might come in handy. in my dreams i’m a cool dj who spins at clubs and gets everyone shaking their groove thing. but i would need this turnable

but in reality, i am old and have lots of old vinyl records that i would love to play.

but for my dj gig i would also need some headphones http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-Studio-Monitor-Series-DJ-Headphones-MDR-V500DJ/sem/rpsm/oid/222593/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

    15 Jeremy Jones December 19, 2008 at 11:01 am

I would like you to send my parents the Garmin gps 60. My mom battled through breast cancer a couple of years ago. Just recently she had to have a pace maker put in because her electrical system for the lower heart wasn’t working. She lived a healthy active life before all of this and she is trying to get back to that point. My dad was also affected by all of this because he holds all of his emotions in. They have went out geocaching with me a few times and really liked it. This would get them outdoors to exercise while having fun.

    16 Jason Brown December 19, 2008 at 10:47 am

    Hello Missy,

I think you should by this gift for me because I want my girlfriend to be a little happier this year. She is a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse. So her job working to help sick kids can be stressful. Being a music buff, an IPod touch would help her unwind. She’s been wanting one. Here it is at CC. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Apple-8GB-iPod-touch-Black-2nd-Gen-MB528LLA/sem/rpsm/oid/223656/catOid/-17362/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Alex Levy, I can’t think of a better idea! Wow.

    19 Alex Levy December 16, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Here is what I would like to see done with the money. Being as people are requesting somewhat frivolous items, why not take that money (assuming I win of course) and buy a Wii. Then take that Wii and donate it on my behalf to the St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Far be it for me to ask some total stranger for an undeserving gift but making a few children happy is a much better use of the generous funds.
I would almost expect every entrant to request of you the same thing.

    20 BenSpark December 16, 2008 at 3:54 pm

I would love an ipod nano and an HD car stereo with Auxillary port. The reason I would like these items is that in 2009 I intend to learn the Chinese language. I am planning on using rosetta stone and there is an audio piece to the product. I have a long commute and for 15 minutes of that commute each day I intend to listen to Chinese. Unfortunately my car stereo does not have the aux port and I would like an ipod just for the car and the intended us of learning Chinese. Here are the links.

It goes over by a few bucks which I would gladly pay. I picked the cheapest items of the two.

Missy, you are so nice to share.

My husband has been asking for Rock Band 2 for XBOX, but we really can’t afford it. I asked him if he would mind if we didn’t exchange gifts and just go out and do something fun together instead (since we have so many other people to purchase for), but then he went out this weekend and bought me a gift. I know he charged spent way more than he should have, and I think it would be really nice to surprise him with his big wish list item.

I would use it to to get my 15-year-old artsy daughter a Wacom tablet, so she could draw and upload pics directly for whatever she’d like. She is the best kid ever and I wanted to get this for her last year, but lost my job right before Christmas and have been somewhat spottily employed since then. She is into community theater, has a full academic scholarship to a private high school, is helpful at home and not sassy (most of the time, sometimes I DO get the eyeroll) ๐Ÿ™‚ . She deserves to have something to help her enjoy her favorite home activity. She plans to go to the Rhode Island School of Design when she graduates.

    28 Thomas December 7, 2008 at 5:44 pm

I don’t deserve my gift more than anyone else requesting. There is nothing that sets me apart. But it would be awesome if I could be able to listen to music on the go. I had an Mp3 once but it was a mere usb and grew old. This year our Christmas budget is low, but that’s nothing to pout about, theres always someone worse off :). This is my request an Ipod touch (Ive never had an ipod but my friend recently came into one and it is very cool and diverse and well worth it trust me) :http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Apple-8GB-iPod-touch-Black-Gen-2-MB528LLA/sem/rpsm/oid/223656/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

I would get a digital camcorder for my husband and I. We’ve got two kids, 4 and under, and don’t have any family movies of them. PLUS, we’d use it to launch our new business, which will involve a bit of video blogging.

    31 Jean D. December 6, 2008 at 3:42 am

I’d love to give my daughter this Ipod Touch:

I would love sending her Itune songs as gifts. She digs my music. Yay! What a brilliant child!

Great contest Missy! Found out about it on Twitter, and then Kim’s blog ๐Ÿ™‚

I would absolutely adore a laptop (seriously… DO NOT have one) I really need to get one! But unfortunately they are over $250! So – in that case I would love to get a nice camcorder (still have the digital m8… ya, I know… really old!!!) Here is the one I like: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-Handycam-DCR-HC52-MiniDV-Camcorder-DCRHC52/sem/rpsm/oid/201785/catOid/-13063/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

    Great idea, Missy!

I’d get the latest gen iPod Nano in green for my husband. He just got a new (to him) car and wants one to be able to use it with his stereo input cord. I’d also want to get him the car charger for it and a case of some kind.

Why should you get it for me? Cause it’ll make him happy and make me happy that I can spend more money on his younger brothers and sisters (all 11 of them) and not have to worry about making room in the gift budget for the big ticket spouse item lol.

Like you, I just buy myself what I want when I want… My family and friends find it a little annoying around the holidays. But I don’t worry because, frankly, I get a much bigger charge out of GIVING then I do getting gifts anyway. So, my wish list item is intended as something I would give to my parents…

Here’s why I want this type of picture frame… My folks are at that point where they don’t travel anymore. Sadly, there kids and grandkids (except me) are living all around the country. So they rely a great deal on photos, videos and phone calls to keep connected. I’d love to give my parents this frame and keep it loaded with pictures of their family.

Missy–thanks for doing this. It is great fun to see what is on everyone’s wish lists.

    42 andrew wee December 4, 2008 at 7:30 pm

My 2 year old daughter, Bianca, is quite a tech head and is probably one of the computer savviest in my household. She likes watching clips on the Flip and operates my LCD tv and dvd with ease. When she’s bored, she grabs my nokia n73 and fires up her favorite baby einstein clips on my phone.

During long road trips, she gets bored though, so i’m thinking the ipod 120gb video player might be the fix she needs.

    Thanks, Santa Missy!

    43 Brad Waller December 4, 2008 at 1:56 pm

I’d ask for a small camcorder one step up from the Flip, like the Samsung SC-MX20 Digital Memory Camcorder. It’s on sale so after tax it is less than $250. If you are not paying sales tax, then you can even throw in a 4 GB memory card (they have the bundle on the page) and with free shipping it is less than $250.

I’d use the camera to take videos of my daughter’s dance performances, and I’d bring it to Affiliate Summit and try my hand at Video reporting!

    44 Eric Nagel December 4, 2008 at 10:13 am

If I won, I’d like to get the Wii Music package (with additional controller) as seen at

My family loves playing the Wii together; also, my girls love to sing. I think this package would give us another way to spend time together as a family.

Thanks Missy – see you in Vegas in January!

I too would ask for a digital camera, but i would give it to my sister. She and her hubby just had a new born boy named Mason and daddy is in the marines and will be overseas for the holidays. This way she can take pictures of the baby and send to him.

here’s the one I would pick:

    47 Shannon December 3, 2008 at 11:20 pm

I would use it to get a digital camera for myself. I’ve got an old 35mm camera but its too cumbersome and Im tired of not seeing if I got the shot until AFTER I get the film developed. It would make taking pictures of my son and family so much easier, I might actually take more pictures!

    53 Julie December 3, 2008 at 5:06 pm

I would use it towards the purchase of a video camera for my 14-year old son.

I found this one, but without knowing too much about them, I’m sure he would know the exact one he would want.

The reason I would get this for him is that he is a skateboarder, and he is into video editing BIG TIME! He films at the skate park every.single.day (then comes home and video edits every.single.night) with his giant brick of a camera I bought him 4 years ago, and he says it’s too heavy and bulky.

I want to give him everything he needs to pursue his dreams, and this would be a GIANT help in fulling those.

Thanks for the offer Missy, you are very generous!
